The domes are ceramic and have exhaust holes on the top to manage overheating should your bulbs encounter that problem. I had originally overestimated the size of the first domes I bought (large deep) and was able to exchange it. Reptile Gardens has helped me along every step of the way in regards to this process. The owner, Björn, was generous enough to answer my multitude of questions when it came to the domes, heating elements, dimmerstats etc. and could advise me on which domes I should exchange the first ones for (ended up going with a small shallow for a halogen flood and a large shallow for the heat projector). They have truly excellent customer service and expertise when it comes to answering questions regarding the products and husbandry of your animal. A few weeks before I even made my purchases Reptile Gardens answered all my questions diligently and were very accommodating in making the exchange process as easy as possible.
